Facebook’s Removing its Restrictions on Text Content in Facebook Ad Images
This is a significant update for Facebook Advertisers. According to reports, Facebook is removing its restrictions on ads which include more than 20% text in the main image. As shared by social media expert Matt Navarra, Facebook is contacting advertisers direct to inform them of the update, explaining that: “…we will no longer penalize ads with higher amounts of image text in auctions and delivery.”

YouTube removed twice the usual amount of videos between April and June after relying on AI to moderate content amid forced lockdowns. A significant proportion of videos removed during that time did not break any of YouTube’s rules. The increase in video removals is a result of YouTube reducing human oversight during the content moderation process. YouTube made an abrupt shift to AI-based moderation after lockdown orders prevented its 10,000 person team of content moderators from coming in to work. YouTube’s machine systems were granted authority to take action on videos identified as containing potentially harmful content or misinformation. Further, the AI was programmed to err on the side of caution. That means content was removed even if it had borderline content which didn’t quite break YouTube’s rules.

With the UK slowly and cautiously transitioning to life outside of lockdown, it is safe to say that the business world has experienced a period of significant change, one that does not look like it will be returning to ‘normal’ any time soon. Many different aspects of a business’s overall operations will have required change to some extent over the past few months, including their marketing efforts. Nevertheless, marketing was arguably the one way in which businesses could maintain communication with customers and their wider audience during lockdown, even if they weren’t actually able to operate.
