Byte, the Second Coming of Vine, is Seeing a Surge in Downloads Amid Debate About TikTok’s Future
With India moving to ban TikTok, and other nations reportedly also considering outright bans of the app due to its potential exposure to the Chinese Government, last week, Byte, which is the second coming of Vine, saw a massive surge in downloads in the US, even reaching the top spot on the App Store charts on Thursday last week, according to Sensor Tower.

Pinterest is introducing a new ranking model to its home feed in an effort to surface certain types of content more often. Traditionally, Pinterest ranks content in the home feed using a click-through prediction model. Pins that a user is most likely to click on, as determined by past activity, are prioritized in their home feed While that model is effective at maximizing user engagement, it’s not the best model for surfacing a variety of content types. For example, if a user never clicks on video content then they’ll never be shown pins with video in their home feed. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t engage with video content if it were to be surfaced.

Marketing Technology Landscape Supergraphic (2020): Martech 5000 — Really 8,000, but Who’s Counting?
Welcome to the 2020 edition of the marketing technology landscape. Yes, it grew once again, by 13.6%, up to a total of 8,000 martech solutions. That’s after 615 from the 2019 landscape went away, either consolidated with another martech company or simply gone defunct. If you were predicting consolidation, an 8.7% churn rate from one year to the next is pretty significant attrition to support that narrative. But the rate of new venture creation — or at least new venture discovery in our research — outpaced the forces of consolidation once again. In fact, if we first remove the 615 from last year’s 7,040 count, then the growth of new entries on the landscape was actually 24.5%. Think about that: 1 in 5 of the solutions on this year’s martech landscape weren’t there last year. That’s almost the equivalent of the entire 2015 marketing technology landscape.

Google’s 3D Swirl Ad Format Now Available in DV360
Swirl, the mobile interactive display ad format that Google started testing last year is now available globally to Display & Video 360 customers globally. Users can rotate, zoom and expand 3D elements in Swirl ads. Brands that have been testing the ads include Purina, Nissan, Adidas and Belvedere Vodka, Google said in the announcement.
