YouTube adds automatic AI upscaling for low-res videos
YouTube is rolling out some updates aimed at making visuals look better on its TV apps, including automatic AI video upscaling. To begin with, YouTube plans to upscale videos that were uploaded in under 1080p to an HD resolution. It aims to support 4K upscaling in the future.

Threads is now up to 150 million daily active users, rising from the 100 million DAU that Meta announced back in December, while Threads users are also spending more time in the app, which Meta says is a testament to its evolving AI recommendations engine.

Mark Zuckerberg is excited to add more AI content to all your social feeds
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is getting ready to dump even more AI-generated posts into your social feeds. During an earnings call on Wednesday, Zuckerberg said the company will “add yet another huge corpus of content” to its recommendations system as AI “makes it easier to create and remix” work that gets shared online.

Anthropic Research Shows How LLMs Perceive Text
Researchers from Anthropic investigated Claude 3.5 Haiku’s ability to decide when to break a line of text within a fixed width, a task that requires the model to track its position as it writes. The study yielded the surprising result that language models form internal patterns resembling the spatial awareness that humans use to track location in physical space.

Google Q3 Report: AI Mode, AI Overviews Lift Total Search Usage
Google used its Q3 earnings call to argue that AI features are expanding search usage rather than cannibalizing it. CEO Sundar Pichai described an “expansionary moment for Search,” adding that Google’s AI experiences “highlight the web” and send “billions of clicks to sites every day.”
