Social now dominates $57.3 billion U.S. programmatic display market
Social is accounting for a higher-than-expected share of programmatic display ad spending. Advertisers in the U.S. will spend more than $57 billion on programmatic digital display by the end of 2019, with 56.3% of that going to ad units on social platforms, a new report from eMarketer predicts. Social’s share of programmatic display spending is expected to increase to 57.6% by 2021, according to the report. That’s up from eMarketer’s April estimate of 52%.

Snapchat Usage Projected to Grow Over 14% This Year
Snapchat has not only grown year-over-year, it has grown every quarter so far in 2019. The US is Snapchat’s largest market, representing 27.4% of its 2019 users. After a decline in US users last year as a result of an unpopular redesign, user growth in the US is expected to be up by 5.9% by the end of this year. The total number of Snapchat users in the US will be over 80 million for the first time. By comparison, Instagram is projected to grow its US user base by 6.7%, bringing the total to 107.2 million. The fastest growing demographic for Snapchat is users ages 12 to 17. The number of users ages 35 to 64 is also growing in double digit percentages.

Google Continues to Command a Significant Share of Search Ad Revenue
Google maintains its position as leader in search advertising, with net revenue dropping less than one per cent since last year. Search ad spending is growing overall, with search outlays projected to rise by almost 18%. Similar increases will continue through 2021. As predicted by eMarketer, search advertising will hold on to just less than a 43% share of the total digital market through 2023.
