Meta Expands its Tests of Generative AI Features as it Looks to Play a Bigger Role in the Space
While more and more generative AI features are being added to social media apps every other week, I’m still yet to see a killer use case for AI in a social context. Sure, AI tools can help you create unreal images of yourself, or of totally imagined scenes, and that’s interesting as a novelty. But beyond that, is there really a value to, say, enabling users to generate entire posts in-stream, which are not actually created by a human?

Meta Tests DMs on Threads via Instagram Inbox
Good news: You’ll soon be able to send DMs on Threads. Bad news: They won’t be via a dedicated Threads inbox. This week, Meta launched a new live test of DMs on Threads, with some users seeing a new “Message” CTA button on Threads profiles.

X Offers New Incentives to Get Brands to Sign Up to X Verified for Organizations
X (formerly Twitter) launched a new offer for brands that are willing to pay to get a gold checkmark in the app, with equal ad credits to be added to accounts that sign up to the program.

Google Unplugs “Notes on Search” Experiment
Google is shutting down it’s Google Notes Search Labs experiment that allowed users to see and leave notes on Google’s search results and many in the search community aren’t too surprised.

Reddit Post Ranks On Google In 5 Minutes – What’s Going On?
Google’s Danny Sullivan disputed the assertions made in a Reddit discussion that Google is showing a preference for Reddit in the search results. But a Redditor’s example proves that it’s possible for a Reddit post to rank in the top ten of the search results within minutes and to actually improve rankings to position #2 a week later.
